Indentification Requirements

In New Jersey, notaries are required to verify the identity of the person signing a document before notarizing it. The following are acceptable forms of identification for notary signer’s in New Jersey:

  • Current government-issued identification card with a photograph and signature, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport.

  • A current U.S. military ID card with photograph and signature.

  • A current employee ID card issued by a federal, state, or local government agency, or an entity that is authorized by law to issue such identification.

  • A current United States passport or passport card.

  • A foreign passport stamped by the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) with an I-94 or I-551.
